Lesson Summary

Movement is incredibly important for both physical and emotional wellbeing. Many children learn best when they are active, moving, exploring, and using their bodies.

This lesson helps children:

  • Become more aware of their bodies
  • Recognise body signals
  • Build confidence through movement
  • Improve coordination and balance
  • Understand how exercise supports emotional wellbeing

For neurodivergent learners especially, movement can help with:

  • Emotional regulation
  • Focus and concentration
  • Sensory processing
  • Releasing stress and tension
  • Building confidence

The lesson also encourages children to notice and understand physical sensations safely, such as faster breathing, tired muscles, or increased energy after exercise.

Little Helper Area

Gentle Tips

  • Allow movement breaks throughout the day
  • Praise effort rather than athletic ability
  • Let children move at their own pace
  • Some children may prefer calm movement over energetic movement
  • Watch for signs of tiredness or sensory overwhelm
  • Encourage water breaks and rest when needed

Questions to Ask After Exercise

  • Was your breathing faster or slower?
  • Did your body feel warm?
  • Did you feel calm, excited, or tired?
  • Which activity did you enjoy most?
  • Which movement felt easiest or hardest?

How can you help at home

You do not need expensive sports equipment to support this lesson.

Simple movement activities are enough:

  • Dancing in the kitchen
  • Throwing and catching a ball
  • Walking together
  • Playing skipping games
  • Obstacle courses indoors or outdoors
  • Stretching together
  • Yoga videos for children
  • Balloon games
  • Running races

The goal is not perfection. The goal is confidence, enjoyment, and body awareness.
